The Role of Alokayon in Enlightening My Life

My name is Md. Nasim Uddin. I come from a lower middle-class family in a remote area of Maheshpur Upazila in Jhenaidah District. My father was not financially able to bear the cost of my education. However, with the talent granted by Allah and my own determination, I continued my studies. By working in the fields with my father and doing private tutoring, I managed to pass the Higher Secondary Examination with a GPA-5.

Despite my father’s poor financial condition, my strong desire for higher education brought me to Dhaka, where I got the opportunity to enroll in the Economics Department at Titumir College. While studying in Dhaka, I had to manage my educational expenses through tutoring and also send some money back home. However, tutoring opportunities were not always available, and even when they were, I often did not receive the payment on time. As a result, it became extremely difficult for me to pay for my mess rent, food, and academic expenses. Many times I even had to remain hungry. Even today, when I recall those painful days, my eyes fill with tears.

My cousin Imran Hossain, who was studying at Dhaka College, occasionally visited the office of Mr. Fazlul Kader, the President of Alokayon. Like me, he also came from a poor family. Later, I came to know that Sir had seen Imran’s name in the list of determined and talented students published in the daily newspaper Daily Jugantor. Sir collected his phone number through the Upazila Accounts Officer and invited him to his office for tea. Considering his financial hardship, Sir provided him with financial assistance according to his ability to help continue his studies. He also gave him BDT 10,000 to start a small business for self-employment.

In 2019, I went to Sir’s office with Imran and was introduced to him. After listening to my family situation and the hardships of my life, Sir came forward to help me. Through the organization Alokayon, he supported me by paying my examination fees, tuition fees, purchasing books, and other academic expenses. Not only that, through Alokayon I also received many forms of assistance, including medical support for my parents, repairing our house damaged by a cyclone, Qard Hasanah (interest-free loan), and many other benefits.

Alhamdulillah, I have now completed both my Honors and Master’s degrees. In 2024, I participated in the 46th BCS Examination and successfully passed the preliminary examination. I am now waiting for the written examination.

With Sir’s direct support, I have been able to overcome the shame and hardship of unemployment and have secured a small private job. Along with supporting myself, I am also able to help my poor parents.

Alokayon has appeared in my life like a beacon of light. Without the support of Alokayon, I doubt whether I could have completed my education. I promise that I will remain connected with Alokayon throughout my life. In whatever way possible—through financial support or voluntary service—I will stand beside Alokayon and make every effort to help underprivileged people.

Currently, in Nakhhalpara, Dhaka, I am serving as a Senior Teacher at Alokayon Pathshala-1, a school operated by Alokayon for underprivileged children. I supervise and support the teaching activities of both students and teachers there.

May Almighty Allah grant us the opportunity to stand beside the underprivileged people. Ameen.

“The man who donates in day and night publicly or secretly, he/she must get immense rewards from Almighty Allah” (Surah Bakarah: 274)

Since establishment, “ALOKAYON” tries its level best to serve the actual vulnerable people. It never promotes begging and malice rather it helps the helpless. It remains neutral in times of beneficiaries’ selection.

Alokayon Standing Beside the Cold-Affected People of Poverty-Stricken Kurigram

Among the 64 districts of Bangladesh, Kurigram is one of the most poverty-stricken and neglected regions. The majority of the people in this district are extremely poor and helpless. Particularly during the winter season, the suffering endured by children and elderly people due to the lack of warm clothing is beyond description.

In this region, I have personally witnessed elderly individuals and children shedding tears simply because they did not have even a single piece of warm clothing. Such scenes deeply moved me and made my heart tremble with pain. I often wondered how I could stand beside these helpless people and help alleviate their suffering.

At such a time, a voluntary organization named Alokayon ignited a ray of hope in my heart. The honorable President of Alokayon consulted me regarding the distribution of winter clothing among the extremely poor people of Kurigram. He sought assurance that the distribution would be conducted with complete transparency and reach the truly needy individuals. I assured him of my full cooperation, and I personally went to the village to distribute winter clothing among the genuinely underprivileged.

Due to financial limitations, I had never before been able to engage in such relief activities on my own. While distributing winter clothing, I experienced for the first time the profound spiritual joy of giving to those in need—an emotion that cannot be adequately expressed in words.

With the support of Alokayon, winter clothing was distributed among the extremely poor residents of Ulipur Upazila in Kurigram District, somewhat alleviating their suffering during the harsh winter. Seeing smiles replace the tired and distressed expressions on their faces filled my eyes with tears of joy. Witnessing the heartfelt prayers offered by the beneficiaries for those associated with Alokayon brought immense happiness to my heart. It felt like a glimpse of paradise.

Therefore, I sincerely pray to Almighty Allah that Alokayon may continue to serve humanity and expand its noble activities for the welfare of people.

In conclusion, with deep gratitude, I earnestly request Alokayon to continue providing assistance each year to help relieve the suffering of the poor and helpless people of this region. May the distressed people of this area find some comfort and dignity in their lives.

Once again, I conclude by wishing continued progress and prosperity for Alokayon.

Alokayon: A Torch of Light

Alokayon is a social welfare organization that provides assistance to students studying in schools, colleges, madrasas, and universities. It supports poor and meritorious students by helping them with admission fees, tuition fees, and the purchase of books and other educational materials. I am one of the beneficiaries of this organization.

Later, I learned that Alokayon’s activities extend far beyond educational assistance. The organization also provides medical support to the poor, distributes winter clothing, offers allowances for elderly individuals and widows, provides financial assistance for the marriage of orphan girls, offers interest-free loans, and supplies widowed women with cows, goats, ducks, chickens, sewing machines, and other resources to support income-generating activities and poverty alleviation.

For a long time, Alokayon has played an important role in my educational journey. The organization has generously supported me in realizing my dreams and achieving my academic goals. The scholarship provided by Alokayon has significantly eased the financial burden on my poor father and enabled me to continue my studies. Through this assistance, I have been able to cover my educational expenses and develop myself into a highly educated individual.

With the help of Alokayon’s educational support, I have been able to successfully continue my academic life and move toward completing my higher education. Honestly, I feel truly fortunate to be associated with such a remarkable organization as Alokayon.

In the future, after entering my professional life, I will make every effort to repay this support by giving back to society in a positive way. I also hope to remain associated with Alokayon and contribute to humanitarian work, especially by supporting the education of poor and meritorious students, Insha’Allah.

I would like to express my sincere thanks to Alokayon for its generosity and continued support.

Alokayon is a blessing from Allah for poor students.

I was born in a poor family in Fulbari Upazila of Kurigram. Since Kurigram is a poverty-stricken area, there is not much importance given to education in this area. My father is a carpenter. My father runs his family by working as a daily wage labor. There is no place to grow crops. There is no fixed income from this profession. As a result, we had to go without food almost every day. I was very interested in education from a young age. Despite financial hardship, I had an unwavering desire to continue my education. So, I worked as a daily wage labor  with my father to cover my education expenses. I also received help from Allah. Thus, I passed S.S.C. and H.S. with a GPA of 5.00. By the infinite mercy of Allah, I also got the opportunity to get admission in Rajshahi University. While studying in school and college, I used to commute from home. I would spend my days with my parents, whether I ate or not. But after getting admitted to the university, I was worried about how I would pay for my stay and food in the hostel. Suddenly, one day, Fazlul Quader Sir called me and inquired about my admission. He encouraged me, gave me courage and told me to help as much as possible through his organization called Alokayan. After that, he used to send me money every year to pay the tuition fees of the university. Although the amount was not significant, it was enough to help me continue my studies. I do not know Sir, and I have not even met Sir till now. We only talked on the phone. Alhamdulillah, after overcoming hundreds of difficulties, I got admitted in 2017 and successfully completed my education at the university. Along with expressing my gratitude to Allah Almighty, I also thank Alokayan for standing by poor students like us. I will also try to stand by the poor and talented students of the society by taking the lessons from Alokayan and entering the working life, Insha Allah. May the enlightenment become more enlightened, may it spread light among the deprived people, and may such organizations spread throughout the country.
